Presenter Bios

Ahmed Malik is a business lawyer in the Regina office of Miller Thomson, who advises clients on their corporate and commercial activities including purchase and sale transactions, commercial and residential real estate, and resource and renewable development matters. Ahmed acts for clients of all sizes, including owner-managed companies, entrepreneurs, professionals, municipalities, and institutions.

Khurrum Awan is a commercial and constitutional litigator in Miller Thomson’s Regina office. His commercial litigation experience includes acting on a variety of contractual disputes, construction claims, defective product claims and class actions, where he has served as counsel on some of the leading cases in Saskatchewan.  Khurrum has significant experience working with insurance defence clients in settling and defending a broad range of commercial disputes.

Jonathan Martin is the editor of the Miller Thomson western Canada construction law newsletter “Breaking Ground” and has a broad civil and commercial litigation practice. He has appeared before administrative tribunals, at all levels of court in Saskatchewan, at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, as well as at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has a particular interest in construction litigation, employment law, administrative law, and has experience in appellate level work both as a party and also as an intervener.

Scott Hammel has a litigation practice focused on construction disputes, professional liability, insurance, and general commercial litigation. Scott also advises clients on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and has participated in mediation and arbitration proceedings.

Presenter Bio

Derek Hoffman is a corporate-commercial lawyer advising public, private and government entities in a range of industries including mining, energy, agriculture, technology, financial services and commercial. Derek also previously worked as in-house counsel for a large diversified global mining company.

Presenter Bio

Amy Groothuis is a civil litigator with a focus on labour and employment law. She acts for public and private sector employers, and provides proactive, preventive employment advice to clients on their rights and obligations regarding employment standards, occupational health and safety, human rights, and workers’ compensation. She represents management in all manners of labour relation disputes and grievances.
