This half-day course explains the role of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee/representative in the workplace. An OHS committee/representative enables workers to participate in identifying, assessing and controlling of hazards in the workplace. Specific topics include committee legislation, roles and responsibilities of employers, workers, and the division, forming and make-up of the committee and the committee's responsibilities towards safety.
This course is not a replacement for OHS Level I and Level II and will not be sanctioned by OHS. It is simply an awareness course to help workers understand their committee/representative and help employers meet their legislative responsibilities to inform their workers.
Participants learn the basics of OHS legislation, how the committee functions, and how the
committee may assist workers to improve the health and safety of their worksite.
